Sin According To Keller

"Sin is not only doing bad things, it is more fundementally making good things into ultimate things. Sin is building your life and meaning on anything, even a very good thing, more than on God. Whatever we build our life on will drive us and enslave us. Sin is primarily idolatry."
-Tim Keller

So, I was stewing on this Keller quote and I'm also reminded that sin is not necessarily actions. Sin is who I am, sin is my nature. Without the essence of who Jesus is, I will always choose evil, remaining hellbound. We are desperate for Him.....

I would agree that before I was justified by the blood of Jesus, I would identify myself with sin. However, now as a child of God, being sanctified and transformed by His Spirit, I must learn to identify myself as one of His, as a Christ-follower. As a Christian, I must identify myself as an undeserving sinner, being granted the gift of grace and the honor of being a child of God, while not forgetting who I once was.

You are correct, we must remain desperate for Him, but we also must not miss the point that we actually have Him in our lives and must continue to strive to know Him more and more on daily basis.

Great thoughts...
